An Ecosystem of Ecosystems
Underground Rainbow Experiment (URE) is an ecosystem of ecosystems.
We build local ecosystems with their own relationships, resources, governance, and infrastructure—while connecting them to a larger global ecosystem.
Our model is informed by adrienne maree brown's concept of fractals in Emergent Strategy: the idea that the patterns we practice at a small scale shape the larger systems we create.
For URE, how we build locally is practice for how we build globally.
The Local Ecosystem
Each URE chapter brings together:
Chapter Members — BTGNC collectives and community initiatives practicing governance, collaboration, and resource sharing.
URE Stewarded Spaces — housing, creative, commercial, and gathering spaces that provide physical infrastructure.
Community Partners — organizations, venues, businesses, and service providers that expand local relationships and resources.
Together, they create conditions for people to live, create, gather, organize, and build.
The Global Ecosystem

The Global Ecosystem connects local ecosystems across cities, regions, and countries through:

Knowledge and skill sharing

Capital and resource circulation
The global does not replace the local. It strengthens it.
URE's ecosystem is designed to grow through a reciprocal cycle:
Build locally → Connect globally → Share resources → Strengthen locally → Build again.
Each chapter contains a version of the larger ecosystem, and the larger ecosystem reflects the practices of its chapters.
We are not building one centralized institution. We are building many connected ecosystems capable of strengthening one another.
